Share and synch files with Foldershare

Posted in Uncategorized by extrafox on December 2, 2005

Foldershare is a free service that allows anyone to access and synch their personal files anywhere [Foldershare][via Jeff Johnson’s Weblog]. Their system is based on P2P technology. Here are the steps:

  1. Create a free account on Foldershare
  2. Download and install the free client onto a computer that has files you want to make available
  3. Download and install the client onto another computer where you want those files synch’d
  4. Log into Foldershare to share the folder
  5. Files will automatically synch and stay synch’d between the two computers

In addition to synching, you can also retrieve the files you are interested in through the Foldershare website. This makes it simple to store files on a computer at work or home, then retrieve them from anywhere on the Internet through the Foldershare website.

The files you share are not stored on Foldershare servers. Foldershare simply provides the mechanism for sharing the files. All files are stored and shared on your personal computer. One advantage of this approach is that you are not limited by the space allotted to you by the provider. One disadvantage is that your computer must be online in order to be able to access your files.
